A good 18th century travelling coffee grinder in lignum vitae in full working order, having an original folding handle with a lignum vitae knob that unscrews with a retaining nut, so that it can be removed to enable the top section to be unscrewed in order to fill the interior. The lower section has a screw thread to gain access to the metal grinder and the circular base container to retrieve the ground coffee or to house the folding handle. The whole, turned in both heart and sap wood, has a lovely rich colour and patination.
