An excellent Victorian boxwood handled bread knife, having a shaped blade which is indistinctly stamped Brian ..... Ltd, London. It has a plain collar attached to an extremely finely carved boxwood handle, depicting holly leaves and berries on one side with other berries and leaves on the reverse. Madeleine Neave in her book 'Vintage Breadboards', shows a photograph of a rare carved holly decorated breadboard of which only two are known, circa 1880, on page 141, making this knife a rare example of exceptional quality, having carved holly and berries on the boxwood handle. The handle has an excellent colour and patination.
English Circa 1880.
