A lignum vitae signet for wafers or wax seals, having a turned handle above a brass stamp in the traditional manner with a cross hatched end and initialled E.E. Wafers were small discs of flour, mixed with gum or gelatine, which when moistened were used cold for sealing letters, attaching papers or receiving the impression of a seal. The whole has a good colour and patination.
