A well turned 19th century mahogany tobacco jar, having a plain body of baluster form that has a carved fitted lid, surmounted by a shaped mahogany finial, terminating with a small bone acorn. The interior is fitted with a separate mahogany ring turned lid, with a bone handle to compress the tobacco. The whole has a good medium colour and patination.
