A rare and most unusual decorative Scandinavian carved birch spoon, inscribed twice and dated 1858. The bowl, with a painted salmon, has a border of leaves and flower heads. The shaped handle, which is inscribed and dated 1858, terminates with a green painted collar with a carved semi closed hand. The back is again inscribed and with further decoration to the back of the spoon. Although both inscriptions are legible, we have been unable to translate them. It has a most pleasing colour and retains a patination.
