An unusual 19th century circular box in spalted maple, having a deep lid that is inlaid with two compass roses. The fitted base has a vacant interior and is of useful proportions, possibly used by a sailor for his personal effects. The interior has amazing spalted grain, and the exterior has a pleasing pale colour, retaining a patination.
