A well constructed staved oak and tapered iron bound decorator's bucket or pail, having a top with a vertical stave to each side with a central hole to attach a rope handle. The pine base has a retailer's stamp on the underside, which reads, 'The Lincrusta central decorating Co. Ltd. Oxford St. London W. - near the Circus'. The whole has a good colour and retains a patination.
Lincrusta was (and I believe still is) a decorative embossed wallpaper invented originally in the mid 19th. century. I presume buckets such as this one were for containing the wallpaper paste.
