A delightful Georgian Period mahogany chip carved Welsh mirrored double book box, identically carved both sides with star, diamond and fan motifs. The spine has a vertical inset mirror within lines of stringing. The sides have sliding lids, revealing a further full sized mirror and a vacant compartment. These are considered love tokens, carved with love and given to a girlfriend for her to carry, enclosing personal affects such as trinkets or other small items. It is late 18th century or early 19th century, and has an excellent rich colour and original patination.
