An interesting pair of partially 18th century carved walnut bellows, having a front with a winged griffin, lion head and snakes, all within a heart shaped border. The cast brass screw thread nozzle, with a mythological animal's head, is attached with a brass rectangular stepped platform. The leather has at some date been replaced, also the entire back board, having a scratched carved design of a standing lion, within a heart shaped surround. The front handle has also had some restoration with an inserted piece to the back, expertly done and hardly noticeable. The whole has a pleasing colour, is in full working order and retains a patination.
Italian Circa 1780, Restoration English Mid 20th Century
