An excellent early 19th century large Scottish salt in laburnum wood of important proportions, having a rounded rim above a concave body with an incised line and rounded base. The whole is raised on a concave support, seated on a sloping platform with a stepped and rounded foot. The underside is fractionally concave with a sunken central hole for the chuck to support it on the lathe. It has an excellent rich colour and patination.
