19th Century Apple Wood Knitting Sheath.

An unusual signed apple wood knitting sheath in the form of a shoe, having a protruding heel and an incised line border. The curved body of gulls wing design, with a square tapered handle and needle end, is carved both sides with the name of S. Smithson. The whole has a pale honey colour and good patination.
