A lovely stained and polished birch chip carved Norwegian double knitting needle box, having two compartments side by side with sliding lids. The whole front is intricately carved with roundels, leafwork and square hatching. Knitting needles were usually 9 to 10.5 inches long, but when used for items such as socks they were double ended and 7 to 8 inches in length. It has a lovely rich colour and patination, and is in excellent condition.
