An 18th Century elm sailor's liner or seam rubber, having engraved initials F.S. on the diamond shaped end. The shaped tapered body has engraved diamond decoration on all four sides similar to a Welsh love spoon meaning wealth or good fortune. It has a used and worn patination. Seam rubbers were used for smoothing stitched seams in canvas.
