Russian portrait engravings.
Set of eight portrait engravings of the Russian Royal Family including Czars, Emperors,an Imperatrice and a Grand Duchess. H.Benner pinxt. J.Mecou Sculpt. Originally, these portraits were from a set of 24 entitled 'La Famille Imperiale' by the French artist Jean Henri Benner (1776-1818).
They were stipple engraved by Andre Joseph Mecou and printed, published and bound in book form as a set of prints. They were published by M. Saint-Florent of St. Petersburg and M.Rosenstrauch of Moscow, in 1817.

The original paintings of these engravings included those copied from existing prints of the ancestral Imperial family, followed by contemporary portraits which were painted on enamel shortly after Alexander 1’s victory over Napoleon.
They are possibly the most celebrated work of the portrait artist, Benner, who spent many years in the court of Alexander 1 in St. Petersburg as appointed court painter. Andre Joseph Mecou, portrait engraver, was b. Grenoble in 1771 and d. Paris 1837.
