Regency Specimen Woods Work Table.

An extremely good quality Regency period rosewood work table, of octagonal form. Having charming specimen wood parquetry inlaid top, enclosing baized interior compartment. Raised on four elegant, extravagantly swept legs united by central plateau.

This incredibly elegant little work table is a really interesting item. Almost certainly made as a one off commission due to its rather unusual leg design we think it's simply marvellous.

The top is veneered in a parquetry form with all manner of specimen wood veneers and that adds another whole dimension to the elegance of the piece as well. Often the use of specimen wood veneers was a way for a high end workshop to display just how many different exotic wood veneers they had access to and indeed often a specimen wood item could be used almost like a catalogue, ie to show prospective clients what each wood looks like and allow them to choose which they would prefer their item to be manufactured from.

Overall the table is in good condition, very much fit for use and would make an excellent bedside table, or occasional lamp type table.

The table also retains a trade retail label from the famous London furniture specialists “Norman Adams Ltd” who dealt at the very top end of the English trade for around 8 decades, finally closing their doors for business in 2009. The fact this table was deemed worthy of being a part of their inventory at some point in the past shows just how highly regarded it is.

As with all items offered for sale by us this lovely table has been naturally wax polished, in the traditional manner, by our expert trained antique furniture restorers before being offered for sale, so you can be assured that it is very much ready to be placed immediately into the home.
