Regency Rosewood and Giltwood Games Table.

An early 19th century Regency rosewood brass inlaid and giltwood games table of impressive form.

The 'D' shaped veneered top is crossbanded with a fleur de lys brass banding and brass bandings.  The rosewood butterfly top is finished on the edging with matching brass decorations.

The top lid opens and swivels to reveal a green baize for gaming.  The frieze is expertly decorated with brass stringing and a centre plaque that protrudes beyond the frieze.

The table top is supported on a crisply carved giltwood pedestal.  The pedestal is fluted above a gadrooned collar, a ring turning and crisply carved acanthus leaf decoration.

The column is raised on a concave brass strung plinth base supported on neatly carved scrolled, hairy paw feet and concealed gilt brass castors.

The table does not have a maker's mark or any defining features that make it stand out as being made by a particular cabinet maker.  Although I am certain that it would have been made by one of the finest London firms and they would have been commissioned to make a suite of furniture.  We only have this example.
