Regency Rosewood 19th Century Writing Slope.
An Exceptional Quality Early 19th Century Regency Period Rosewood Writing Box, Having Fine Brass Inlaid Decoration And Attractive Carved Mouldings, The Sloping Hinged Top Enclosing Old Tooled Writing Surface, Various Compartments And Concealed Storage Well.
As is normally the case with these Regency Writing Slopes, the box is designed to open out and reveal a lovely writing surface, which is further hinged to reveal a large storage well below. Therefore even to this very day it is both practical and beautiful, very much fit for its original purpose.
Dating to the regency period this beautiful writing slope is constructed from a very high quality cut of rosewood veneers which have a striking grain and retain an excellent colour and patina. This is further enhanced by the intricate, fine, brass inlaid decoration on display and even the attractively carved mouldings which add a further decorative dimension to this piece. It would certainly have taken a craftsman with considerable skills to put all this together and this is very much one of the nicest of these that you will see.
Overall the condition is excellent and the writing box has simply been cleaned and naturally waxed using traditional methods by our specialist restorers in our workshops before being offered for sale. The lock works and the item comes with working key.
