Regency period mahogany cabinet.
A superb Regency period mahogany collector's cabinet; the original figured marble top above a pair of panelled doors which are veneered in the best figured Cuban mahogany and open to reveal a fully fitted interior of 24 drawers which are book match veneered in figured mahogany and retain their original ormolu ring pull handles; the doors are flanked by acanthus carved pilasters crisply carved with acanthus and the cabinet is raised on bold scrolling feet again carved with acanthus.
Circa: 1820.
This Regency collector's cabinet is of the finest quality and clearly housed a remarkable collection, possibly of gems or specimen marbles. The cabinet-maker has chosen the very best mahogany veneers and the carved decoration is beautifully executed.
