Regency Mahogany English Fusee Bracket Clock in the style of Thomas Hope by Webster, Cornhill, London.

Finely figured flame mahogany case surmounted by a gadroon top with brass pineapple finial standing on brass ball feet supporting a raised plinth with dentil moulding.  Brass bound centre panel, ebonised mouldings with brass stringing. Brass sound frets to the side of the case with red silk and brass carrying handles.

Finely cast brass bezel opening to a re- painted convex dial with Roman numerals signed ‘Webster, Cornhill, London’ and original ‘blued’ steel hands. 

Eight day Fusee movement with engraved border to the backplate striking the hours on a bell and repeating at will.

The case of the clock is in the style of Thomas Hope. Circa 1810.

Richard Webster is listed in Watchmakers and clockmakers of the world by Brian Loomes as working in Change Alley, Cornhill circa 1811.

Thomas Hope was a British merchant banker who became an influential collector and designer of regency furniture.  He travelled extensively through Greece, Turkey and Egypt.  In 1799 he bought a house designed by Robert Adam in Duchess Street, Portland Place, London which he then remodelled with a series of themed interiors. One room being designed in the Egyptian style.

He published his book ‘Household furniture and interior decoration’.
