Regency chinoiserie tole tray, circa 1830.
A Japanned tole tray of generous size and good condition. Decorated with a delightful chinoiserie scene of two figures in a fanciful landscape of pagodas and plants in various shades of gold and bronze.

Paper Mache and tole or tinware were highly regarded forms of decorative art in the 18th century. Manufactured in the Midlands, and often used by designers like Robert Adam and others.
