Rare Set of Three 16th Century English Tudor Oak Panels. Circa 1520.

These beautifully executed Tudor oak panels would have most probably been part of a retable. Each panel depicts a scene from the bible- one panel depicts the account of Abraham and Isaac, the second depicts the resurrection of Christ, flanked by angels and sleeping soldiers, the third depicts the baptism of Christ with God flanked by the sun and moon, angels to the left and right and the holy spirit to the centre.

These panels resemble the slightly earlier Nottinghamshire alabaster retable panels of the late 15th century.

Provenance private collection.

Stock no 1889.
