Late 18th Century Antler and Horn snuff box.
Superb Rare late 18th, early 19th Century Snuff or Tobacco box of Horn and Antler. Most likely of Scandinavian origin so the Antler could possibly be Elk. Because of the width. Carved on the front is the Crucifixion with the tools of the Passion of Christ. On the reverse, Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden with the Serpent wrapped around the tree. Curiously Eve is dressed wearing a hat. Around the edge is a Scrimshaw pattern of geometric design and what look like hunting dogs and Elk. A very unusual rare box in superb condition. 8 cm’s x 5 cm’s x 3 cm’s Great patination and in perfect condition. Circa 1790-1810.
