RARE GEORGE II silver PRINCE of ORANGE & DUKE of CUMBERLAND Medal. 
Maker: T Pingo. London 1747. 

Obverse: Bust of William of Orange hair long facing left in dress-coat, ribboned and star of the Garter.

Reverse: Bust of the Duke of Cumberland facing right hair tied back, in armour and ribboned across the chest.

In the winter of 1746 the Prince and the Duke met at the Hague to arrange the details of the ensuing campaign. The British part of the allied army was commanded by the Duke of Cumberland. The Prince of Orange, was elevated to the Stadt Holderate and placed at the Head of the Dutch army. He was not familiar with military tatics and was jealous of his more experienced brother-in-law. Therefore serious diagreements soon developed between him and the Duke.
