Spice route Erotic Snuff Box (RESERVED)
Just stunning rare Figural snuff box carved from Padauk wood. Wearing a rope twist hat with a tassle, his hat and gown are adorned with brass pin work. He wears a necklace inlaid in brass Pique work. The back flap opens with a thumb lift and superb original brass hinge. The whole piece is untouched throughout and a fabulous colour and patination. A superb rare snuff box dating from Circa 1770-90, Most likely bought by a Sailor on the Marco Polo Great Silk Road. A rare survivor in this exceptional condition. 11 cm’s tall. An extremely rare figural Snuff box in this form with intricate decoration in brass. This would have been highly valued back ‘home’ in France in the 18th Century.
