An 18th century George II Cuban mahogany side table after the designs of Thomas Chippendale.

The strongly figured top is showing a good patina and colour.  The concave breakfront and rounded shaped top with a double moulded edge is well-drawn and elegant.

The lopers that hold the flaps up retract and leave a 2ft square side table with a full length oak-lined drawer. The mahogany drawer retains open-fret gilt brass handles which are placed on the front and the reverse. The side table is raised on solid Cuban mahogany legs that stand on pad feet and are supported with a solid carved open fret stretcher.

The images of the sketches are taken directly from The Chippendale Director, The original 'Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director' produced by the furniture workshops of Thomas Chippendale, first published in 1754.
