Painted in the Neo-classical style with a bust portrait of the goddess Minerva to the centre, reserved against a bright pink ground within alternating scroll and pendant husk green, pink and gilt borders, the shaped rim bearing an oval cartouche with the arms of Peter Van Hemert within further laurel and lime green and gilt beaded bands.

Literature
The Danish arms are those of Peter van Hemert (1735-1810), who was a counsellor of state and agent with the Danish Justice Council. He took a particular interest in the Asiatic company of Denmark, in which he owned shares which quadrupled in value between 1772-81.
