A rare and real masterpiece of workshop city weavings, this is a breathtaking antique Tehran carpet with silk highlights woven around 1900-1910.

With a stunning deep blue changing to dark green border, the design work consists of delicate and highly detailed flower-heads, elaborate leaves and ribbons with lots of the detailing in fine silk.

In the main field the purple to pink hue dyes have been used with the softest wool as the background, a colour famous with Tehran weavings. An abundance of silk has been used beautifully to great effect, creating an almost three dimensional feel with the variation in wool and silk combined with the rare split arabesque design famous with the North-West of Persia and Bidjar carpets in particular. Some wonderful pale blues can also be seen on the smaller flowers in the centre.

We have added 18 close up images of this remarkable carpet, so you can see all the amazing colours and detail. Tehran rarely produced rugs of this design but were known for weaving exceptional quality carpets and rugs, this rug is no exception and really is best of type.

A rare opportunity to own a highly collectable and rare item. We offer the service of viewing any of our carpets & rugs in-situ in London, Surrey, Hampshire & the UK by appointment. Please contact us to arrange an appointment to view this rare antique Tehran carpet in situ or in our barn showroom in Crondall, Surrey.
