About the object

One of the largest know examples of a turned wassail bowl of superb colour with taps in the stem and a large base to take the cups when filled. Wassail was a type of warm punch. 

Lignum vitae was one of the most prized timbers in the 17th century coming from the west indies as ballast on the returning ships.
