A rare 19th century pale blue japanned bombe chinoiserie commode of elegant proportions.

Probably Scandinavian circa 1870.

It is very rare to find a blue japanned commode especially of such elegant proportions.

Finely decorated all over with raised various chinoiserie scenes depicting pagodas, birds, trees, men on horseback and fishing. The serpentine top above a bombe shaped body housing two drawers each with ornate brass pull handles, within keeled front corners outlined by a gilt boarder raised on cabriolet legs and scrolled foot.

As can been seen from the images the quality of decoration is far superior than normally seen and extremely well drawn.

A very decorative and attractive commode of useful size in wonderful original condition.

Inspired by French designs of the mid 18th century this commode relates more to the North European style and specifically the Scandinavian region.
