A very good Omar Ramsden and Alwyn Carr silver and mother of pearl set inkwell, fully hallmarked for London, 1912.

The body of classic Ramsden and Carr “comedy and tragedy design” with four inset lively mother of pearl ovals.  The lid marked with the latin phrase “Rex Lex Pax Lux” , the four lines making up the epitaph of the Frankish poet Angilbert of Corbie.  The design augmented with silver spheres to the wirework surround in the style of the Guild of Handicraft.

The inkwell is in excellent condition with just slight rubbing to the main marks.  The liner may be a replacement.   This is the exact inkwell that appears in Annelies Krekel-Aalberse book “Silver/Zilver – 1880-1940” page 100 and also page 26 of “Art nouveau and Art deco silver” by the same author.
