18th Century Staffordshire Pearlware Pair of Large Figure Groups, "Liberty & Matrimony" & "The Flute Player",
Probably By Enoch Wood or Ralph Wood Jr., Circa 1790-1800.
Each pearlware figural group depicts a young man and woman on a moss-covered rock with a stream cascading down between them.
One group depicts a young man holding a large bird cage on his right knee with his female companion holding a bird from the cage on her left hand. In her other hand, she holds a posy of flowers. On the base, a lamb drinks from the stream, while a swan sits nearby.
The other figure depicts a shepherd with a pipe to his mouth and his dog sitting by his legs while his female companion listens to his playing by his side. A sheep and a goat lie at their feet.
Dimensions: 10 7/8 inches high x 10 2/3 inches wide x 6 1/4 inches ( 26.62cm high x 27.09cm wide x 15.88cm)
