A polychromed and gilded wood reliquary bust representing
Saint Florian.

North Italian, early 17th century.

Measures 62 x 44 x 25cm.

Saint Florian is mostly commonly known as the patron saint of firefighters.

The great miracle that he performed during his lifetime was to put out a huge fire with only one bucket of water, saving an entire village from ruin.

His other patronages are as saint for the city of Linz in Austria, chimney sweeps and soapmakers.
