Perspective Vue de la Maison de Ville a Nuremberg,

An 18th century perspective view of The Market Place, Nuremberg.

A good inky, sharp impression, on laid paper, the publication attributed to Georg Balthasar Probst (1732 - 1801; fl. 1766-1790).

This work published circa 1770.

In excellent condition retaining the original colour. Within a replica 18th century moulding frame.

o.s:19 7/8 in x 14 ¾ in.

Produced to be viewed through a zograscope, either within the home, (if one was wealthy enough), or else at country fairs and the like. Such perspective views were superseded by what became known as the Magic Lantern, invented in January 1793 by the German, Paul de Philipsthal, and whom by 1801 had come to London and opened an exhibition at the Lyceum Theatre in the Strand.
