A magnificent pair of antique silver wine coasters made in 1838 by Robert Gray and Son of Glasgow.The sides are pierced with an unusual trellis/basket weave design and the bases are made of silver. The borders of the coasters  are embellished with vine leaves and grapes.

The Coasters are in excellent condition and are well marked on the bases. Silver based coasters are rare and were made for the top end of the market, wooden base are more the norm. The coasters have mahogany inserts to the underneath.

Maker: ROBERT GRAY & SON OF GLASGOW.

Origin: Glasgow.
