A Pair of Regency Period Bergère Armchairs.
After a Design by Thomas Sheraton.

Constructed from rosewood, the chairs with curved backs supported on reeded front legs and splayed legs to the rear, each with brass casters, the front rail blocks with carved paterae, issuing scrolling lappet volutes and exposed solid rosewood backrails. Each chair stamped with the journeyman’s initals “I.M.”

The design for this pair of tub chairs is derived from Thomas Sheraton's Cabinet Dictionary, which was published in 1803. His influential designs may have inspired Thomas Hope, the father of interior decoration-- to design his own version in 1807.
