About the object
An unusual pair of Regency period mahogany dining chairs with moulded cresting above open x-framed back splat enveloped in a caned surround above overstuffed seat on fluted and tapering column legs terminating in rounded feet.
English, circa 1820
Note: This pair of chairs is of a particularly unusual design with the open x-framed stretcher encompassed in a very thin caned surround. The leg is after a design by Gillows of Lancaster and London but a firm attribution has yet to be made.
