A Pair of Ormolu-Mounted Marble Vases in the Louis XVI Style
Each vase of ovoid shape carved from pure Carrara marble, on incurved bases and waisted socles with stiff-leaf borders, extensively ormolu-mounted with a shaped spout emanating a mermaid-styled handle and draped laurel swags.
French, circa 1890.
These vases are desirable not only for their use of a pure white marble, free from inclusions and defects; but also for their creative bronze elements. The twin-tailed mermaids are a motif seen on some of François Linke's furniture, one of the Belle Époque's greatest craftsmen.
