A pair of late 19th Century Japanese Bronzes depicting Geese and Minogame Circa 1880.
From our collection of Chinese and Japanese Fine Art and Antiques, this pair of Japanese bronze vases with dynamic decoration of swooping geese and a long-tailed Minogame turtle.
The decoration is highlighted with clever use of gold and silver patination. The goose, followed by two of its young swoops over a rolling hillside while the Minogame sits serenely on a rock under a golden moon while a young silver shelled turtle looks up at it. The theme of the decoration on this pair, while not obvious on first inspection linked, seems to revolve around family, children and long life.
