A good pair of Japanese onlaid bronze vases. Meiji Period. Both vases modelled as Takara-bukuro (Treasure Bags), tied at with gilt ropes, set upon tripod feet, and decorated in mixed metals with symbols of good fortune and luck. Rats sit amongst the Hat of invisibility, Never-empty purse, Daikoku mallet, rolls of brocade, scrolls of Wisdom and Longevity, in shakudo, shibuichi, gilt and silver. All on a ground, engraved with scrolls, and Mythical beasts.
Inscription to a case reads ‘??? Kin- senryo’ - ‘One thousand gold ryo’, an old Japanese gold currency unit, in use prior to the Meiji Period.
Height - 18 cm, 7 1/8”.
Width - 13 cm, 5 1/8”.
Condition - Some wear to the gilding. No damage. No repair.
