Pair of Japanese blue and white jugs, circa 1680, each of rounded ovoid form with long neck, flaring footrim and applied strap handle, decorated in underglaze cobalt blue to the body with flowering peony, chrysanthemum and grasses issuing from rockwork with insects in flight overhead; with patterned bands above and below; the necks with further floral design and the strap handles each with a foliate garland.

Condition: One jug with hairline to the neck and very slight fritting to the handle.
