An interesting pair of early nineteenth century English Gothic Mahogany Buckets of hexagon form . Most probably originally intended for fire sided purposes to carry logs to and fro - now they may serve other practical purposes , such as Wine Buckets, Jardinieres or purely decoration ..The design is unmistakingly Pugin whose forte was within the re- discovery of the early Gothic design .
Pugin junior , himself L ondon born, elevated the Gothic design to the British scene becoming enormously fashionable in the late eighteenth century and early nineteenth century . Initially Inspired by his father a Parisian ( France ) a draughtsman specialising in architectural drawings of medieval and eccliastical buildings .He will be remembered mainly for his design for the English Houses of Parliament , although he leaves behind a trail of successes notably in the area of Cathederals -Churches - Homes , including his designs for popular furnishings and furniture .
Condition ......Wonderfully preserved with an excellent natural patina to the extra quality Mahogany . Fortunately ,having the original brass liner and swinging brass handle .
