An exceptionally fine and rare pair of Davenport porcelain vases and covers, c. 1875. The Sevres style decorated vases, painted with large oval beaded gilt panels, containing scenes of a ruined monastery, and a ruined castle, in English rural landscapes. The reverses painted with a cottage, and a river scene. All on a cobalt blue ground, elaborately gilded with insects flying amongst flowering plants.
Both vases with large gilt handles, and set upon circular pedestal feet, with a continuous moulded and gilded leaf motif, within a beaded rim. The necks moulded with acanthus leaves, edged in gilt. Surmounted by domed covers, with large gilt teardrop finials.

Printed iron red factory marks to both bases.
