Circa 1750

Fleur-de-lys marks in blue

Decorated on either side with two sprays of oriental style flowers, fiori coreani, the border with baroque gilt ornament.

This type of flower painting is unique to Capodimonte and displays a delightful disregard of botanical authenticity with a whole variety of different flowers and coloured leaves growing on the same stem.

The closest influence is the baroque oriental flower painting found on Meissen Augustus Rex vases of the early 1730’s. The gilt border is also taken from Meissen laub und bandelwerk.

Collezione Fiordalisi, Naples
