Raymond C. Yard began his jewellery career at the age of thirteen in 1898, at Marcus & Co, one of the premiere jewellery houses in New York at that time. Yard immersed himself in the world of jewellery and steadily climbed the ranks of the firm, where 20 years later Yard was the most sought-after salesman on the floor, and he gained the patronage of John D. Rockefeller Jr., who encouraged him to establish his own firm. In May 1922 Yard opened his salon at 527 Fifth Avenue. Raymond Yard’s extensive client base greatly helped the rapid development of his company. Rockefeller encouraged Yard’s distinguished design work and introduced him to New York’s wealthiest families, including the Vanderbilts, the DuPonts and the Woolworths. This beautiful pair of clips reflects the peak of the Yard’s classical style. During the 1920s and 1930s, Yard worked with a variety of fancy-cut diamonds and coloured stones to create strikingly elegant designs. These exceptional clips are stunning split apart and worn as lapel clips or worn together as a brooch.
