A very fine and unusual pair of Antique Silver George III Candlesticks made in London in 1790 by Robert Sharp. The candlesticks are of very fine quality and of panelled octagonal form. They are very well hallmarked underneath and correctly part marked on the nozzles. Underneath the nozzles and only visible when the nozzles are detached are the numbers 19 and 20 which indicates they were from a very large set which leads me to conclude that they were originally made for a livery company or one of the top class gentlemen’s clubs of the eighteenth century. I have never seen this model before (over 40 years!) so I suspect it was an exclusive order from one of the most important and finest silversmiths of the period (especially as most candlesticks of this period are weighted).
