A very fine and rare pair of George II Corinthian column candlesticks made by Edward Wakelin of London in 1758.These are of exceptional quality and still bear the original owners armorials. The columns are beautifully pierced at the top and the original nozzles are detachable.George II column candlesticks are rare as they don’t normally appear until the early George III period. This pair are cast which makes them superior to the normal filled candlesticks of this style - unsurprising by a maker of Wakelin’s importance. The candlesticks would have been a set of four originally as they still retain their numbers and scratchweights on the outside of each foot. Both of them are in excellent condition - a high quality pair.
