The Woodcutter by Charles Ernest Cundall RA (1890-1971)

Charles Cundall painted in oils and watercolours and exhibited at the RA, RWS and RP. He was known for landscape painting , often painting on a large scale.
He was wounded in the First World war, losing the use of his right arm, he subsequently learned to paint with left arm. This did not stop him getting a scholarship for the RCA. His reputation as a painter steadily grew and the Admiralty commissioned him , during WW2 to paint large Merchant navy activity, this was the same with RAF who commissioned several large Battle of Britain paintings.
At the same time Cundall became a very good portrait painters, several of which are now in the NPG.
Cundall had a very successful career and his works are in many important collections and museums.
