Desenzano, Lago di Garda.

Oil on board, framed, 9 ins x 11ins.

An interesting oil which could possibly be attributed to James Holland.

Bonington painted the original, which now hangs in Art Gallery of West Australia, Perth, in 1826 . He was travelling through Italy with his painter friend Baron Charles Rivet.

They stayed in Desenzano and Bonington painted two views of the fishing harbour. Both these oils are listed in Noon's catalogue raisonne on Bonington.

When this copy was made, is interesting, as the original must have been in the studio sale, from which it went into private hands before going to Australia in 1870's.

This oil dates from between 1830 - 1850 and is by a very good hand.
