17th century Oak joint stool or joined stool. Circa 1640. The single plank, pegged top with a moulded edge over legs with baluster and peg turnings, united by straight stretchers. See 'Oak Furniture, The British Tradition' by Victor Chinnery. The wainscot from the Salisbury area, which is pictured on the frontispiece, features similar turning.
