Solid Naturally Patinated Ash and Oak
English, c.1640
Provenance: An English Private Collection.

A particularly rare model, the design of this small occasional Oval Drop Leaf Stool/Table, is developed from the classic early "joined" stool yet benefits from having twin hinged drop leaves. When raised, the leaves are supported by pull-out lopers, which are housed withing the frame. The finely figured single plank leaves of the top retain their original hinges and the central plank is fixed to the frame with original wooden pegs, in the traditional fashion. The simple "gun-barrel" turned legs are joined by moulded frieze rails and all-round stretchers. There is evidence of much use, scars, bruises, incidental losses and staining bruises, all commensurate with age and function. However, this is a rare early piece, of museum quality, with a genuine original surface and rich honey colour.Stock number
